Writing music

August 29, 2008

If there is something that always changes, its the process of writing and creating music. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t learn something about the process of creativity. Sometimes it’s better to write music in the morning, sometimes at night, sometimes drunk, sometimes stoned, sometimes away from home and sometimes in your head. The same goes for lyrics. The Process of writing (when your fully committed and trying your hardest to create) is the most stressful and mentally draining process I have ever endured. When in writing mode it is impossible to escape from yourself or anything around you. You must deal with every facet of your life. This can be a depressing thing because as we all know, non of us are perfect. You are forced to deal with every little aspect of your life whether it be love, God, religion, money, stress, procrastination, and most of all your self worth. The creation of music can do violently different things to your self esteem. One day it can make you feel as if your a genius and your on top of the world. The next day it can make you feel as if your a waste of space, that no one cares what you create and everything have created in the past is total bullshit. I have grown to understand this process and know how to deal with it on some level. Regardless its a son of a bitch.
